You’ve got the vision, and I’ve got the know-how. Let’s do this thing.

  • you've got a mood board. Now what?

Holding garment samples that were once just an idea is downright exciting. But how do you get there? Going from concept to prototype requires research, rough thumbnails, technical CADs to clarify garment details, and colour ups to highlight the collection’s carefully chosen colour palette. I can provide you with each of these, and any napkin sketches that crop up along the way.

  • technical design: where engineering and textiles collide.

The blueprint that transforms your vision into proto samples, and through to the final product. Tech packs provide painstaking details on everything from the finished garment measurements, to the size of buttonholes, to where the hangtags should be attached (and how). I’ve worked with both local & overseas vendors for several years, and have a high level of expertise in creating comprehensive specs for each style in your collection.

  • figuring out the who-what-where-When.

Finding the right materials, processes, and manufacturers is a job onto itself. I have overseen the set-up of multiple successful production facilities, as well as sourced vendors, specialists, and materials for many different product categories. Allow me to help you streamline this process.

  • how about a coffee chat?

Having worked in this industry for several years, I’ve accrued countless stories chronicling success, failure, and of sticky situations that arose along the way. Even when you have the knowledge and skills needed to do the job, it helps to have someone in your corner who’s been there. They can let you know if what you’re experiencing is par for the course, or if you should be exploring alternative solutions. Some of the most rewarding work I’ve done in recent years falls into the category of being a sounding board for my clients, and providing context for them when needed.

about me.

JANE HARTWICK

I’ve worked in the fashion industry for 20 years, and have had the good fortune to be a part of tiny teams and huge ones, too.  The companies I’ve worked with throughout my career have experienced exponential growth during my time with them. I love what I do, and I feel very lucky to collaborate with so many amazing and talented people.

Part artist & part engineer by birth, my family's creed is "I can make that".  Growing up, I watched the adults in the room prototype everything from lava lamps to long arm quilting machines. They sewed, cooked, built cars & houses from scratch, and fashioned furniture from fallen branches along the way. Like them, I am led by my curiosity to try my hand at a multitude of formats.

Of all my creative outlets, though, the one I have always most cherished is surprisingly ordinary.   The art of getting dressed.

Clothing acts both as a functional necessity, but also an incredibly personal form of expression. Our clothes show people what we value, who we are now, and who we’d like to be. This simple and profound form of communication is why I originally chose this career. Helping designers and founders realise their visions is a rush, and seeing their creations in the real world, styled by everyday people, is why I continue to delight in my profession to this day.
